Is HEIC to PNG conversion lossless?
PNG itself is lossless, so nothing is lost when the decoded HEIC pixels are written to PNG. The only compression that ever happened was when the camera saved the original HEIC.
Why is the PNG so much bigger than the HEIC?
HEIC uses modern video-style compression, PNG uses lossless compression. A 2 MB iPhone photo often becomes a 10–20 MB PNG. If you need a small file, convert HEIC to JPG or WebP instead.
Should I pick PNG or JPG?
